This is a detailed and interesting account of Harry F. Byrd, Sr.'s life. Often, the author is fair to Mr. Byrd. However, the author's interpretations and opinions of much of Byrd's political activity are from a left-wing perspective. As a traditionalist, I often had a completely different view of Byrd's political and economic philosophy.
