    About "Kate Sherwood"

      • Kate Sherwood

Kate Sherwood Is a well-known author, some of his books are a fascination for readers like in the Rough Broke book, this is one of the most wanted Kate Sherwood author readers around the world.

    1. 3 to 3.5 stars. Review posted July 3, 2016A worthwhile and important addition to the Dark Horse series. Maybe the way this short was told (second person, present tense) gave it a somewhat odd feeling. On the other hand, I think Dan being in some kind of state of disconnectedness might have helped him to talk about his ugly secrets. But it turns out they're the good kind of Christians, loving and gentle instead of judgmental, and they have horses. The first time you touch one, an old black Percher [...]

    2. Now I understand Dan and his behavior! Wasn't easy to trust on others, to give himself to another, when he had a terrible past, where he was used and mistreated Now I understand why he need Justin reassurance that his feelings were real! How difficult must have been to give his heart when he was so afraid to get hurt

    3. 5 stars! This was intense and absolutely heartbreaking! Rough Broke offers a short, but memorable glimpse into Dan’s youth and is able to explain so much. Both short stories - Sometimes You Just Know and this one – make Dan’s character much clearer and it feels like I can finally understand his reactions. The book is written in the second person and I felt pulled right into it. I wasn’t able to stop reading and I was sitting on the edge of my seat during the whole read. I wanted to scream [...]

    4. Another little Dark Horse novella, another one with 4.5 stars and This one detailed Dan's life before he met Justin, and what a desperately sad and lonely one it was. He was pretty sure he was into boys, but every one he thought he'd got something going with let him down and then pretended they didn't know him, and he tended to keep going off the rails and ended up either on probation or occasionally in juvenile detention (juvie). His home life was appalling, his stepfather a complete pig , and [...]

    5. A glimpse into Dan's past as a child/teenager. This, combined with Sometimes You Just Know is what I needed to really start getting a feel for what was behind Dan's behavior in Dark Horse and to start feeling invested in him as a character. Justin was one of the very few people who ever loved Dan and the life he lived up until that point was heartbreaking.

    6. This one is one of the harder ones to read. There was some history in the main books, but watching Dan go through it all is still really, really tough.Thankfully, we know Dan ends up in a good place in life and horses have brought him around from what could have been an ever harder life.

    7. 3.5 starsNow I have a better idea why Dan is light on trust and so skittish. Man, he didn't have an easy moment in his life. This was a tougher read than Sometimes You Just Know be prepared.

    8. Just a small glimpse into Dan's past. It gives you a few of the details that were hinted at elsewhere, and an understanding of Dan's odd tendency to waver between passive and aggressive behavior. Packs a punch and yet there is just a little remove, maybe because of the second person present tense which gives it a quality like a memory or a dream. It would be frustrating to read on its own, I think, because it requires the ties into Dan's future in other books to relieve the bleakness.

    9. As with all the books in this series, there is always a heavier undercurrent and serious issues. This one is one of the harder ones to read, yes we know Dan ends up in a good place in life and I've already got a pretty good idea of his history because of the previous books, but watching Dan go through it all is still really tough. Gah. a mother it just kills me to see that his mom didn't protect him and stand up for him, didn't give him a safe place to be.But I guess everything he went through m [...]

    10. 4,5 starsIn this short history we have a glimpse of how awful was Dan's youth, It's heartbreaking and it give us the idea of why Dan has his apprehensions. The writing is different from the rest of the books, in second person, perfect tense, giving the feeling that the reader is inside Dan's mind.

    11. 'Rough Broke' is a short read set within Kate Sherwood's series, 'Dark Horse'. I can not stress the value of this story enough, however, I'll be the first to admit that it's not easy to read. If you've read this series in order, then you already have a hint of the childhood that helped to create Dan. But thinking you know what he suffered, and actually witnessing it, are two totally different things. Once again, though, I find myself grateful to the author for writing it, since Dan is a very com [...]

    12. This was a look into Dan’s past, and I gotta say it broke my heart to see what he went through. This was hard to read, my poor Dan!

    13. This story gives us a further glimpse into Dan's childhood. There are a few more details divulged but not a lot. It still allowed us to see specifically why Dan built up his walls and how he felt during this time. The second person POV gave it an eerie feeling while still holding me at arm's length so this felt a bit strange. As a companion piece it was ok.

    14. It was nice to get an inside view of Dan's life growing up. It really pieces together why Dan was the way he was when he met Justin.

    15. Dear Dan,How are you? I hope you're doing just fine there in California. How's Evan & Jeff? How's Tat? The barn running good?I just read about what you have gone through as a teen. And I know you don't need this butI just want to hug you. Like really hug you. A bear hug. Then protect you from all things that can harm you. Be an invisible and impenetrable barrier from all the bad things from you. EhemI think I'm going crazy here. Can I just say that on Dark Horse I get you but I got confused [...]

    16. This story is a really tough read there were a lot of tears reading this story too. It's unbelievably heartbreaking and really depressing. As much as I wanted to know more about Dan's early life now that I've read about it I wish I didn't know. My heart hurts for him. There is a lot of emotion and sorrow packed into this little short story and that's great but it ends so abruptly it leaves me feeling frustrated. This story needed a better ending.

    17. This is a difficult book to read, we know Dan's early life wasn't good but until this book we didn't realise just what he'd been through, how lost lonely and totally alone he was. I'm glad that Justin found him and broke through. The 3 stars is not a negative it's just that the books so short, I always struggle to review such short books since it just doesn't seem fair to give them the same as a full book but then does the 3 stars look negative.

    18. Poor Dan. That boy just breaks my heart. I had a feeling his childhood/past had something like this in it. And now, even more, I want to cuddle him up in a warm blanket and hold him. I can't imagine growing up and going through a big part of life without ever having felt love. Thank god he found Justin.

    19. No wonder Dan is so f**ked up. There really is no other way to describe how horrible his life was and why he didn't trust anyone, including Justin, in the beginning. Poor Dan, I already liked him but now I love him.

    20. Although this short story tried to justify Dan's odd behavior, I didn't buy some of the justifications here. Ok, just like many protagonists in MM romane, he had troubled childhood and adolescence. And also, just like so many of them he had a hostile relationship with his father and stepfather. But again, he made so many mistakes during his life, which were similar in nature.Justin tried to make him feel better. Justin gave him a new life and helped him to recover from many of his difficulties, [...]

    21. When you read about people that says they never stood a chance! There's always a chance and knowing how he ends up but sign! Dan!!! Poor dan

    22. As part of the series, I found this particular free download to be quite brilliant. While the subject matter was dark and touched on aspects of Dan's childhood that were quite unsavory, it was definitely an insight that I wanted as a reader. I particularly enjoyed the third person in this book. While I would never want to read a whole book in the third person, in this case, I thought it was perfect for this short story. By placing the story in the third person and not in Dan's POV, I almost felt [...]

    23. When I first finished Dark Horse, I wasn't exactly excited about reading this story and Sometimes You Just Know. But now that I'm mostly done Out of the Darkness, it turns out that these two short stories are the ones that I've managed to finish.I've hit a snag while reading Out of the Darkness - I just felt like there was too much repetition. I mean, why does Dan keep on backing out and seem not as invested as the relationship? So I decided to read some pre-Dark Horse books to get some perspect [...]
