    1. Another prize from the LibraryThing giveaways program, this one even came with a courteous letter from the author himself. I'm always one to be impressed by presentation, and the presentation of this book was fine indeed: I was especially impressed by the dozen or so illustrations by Sean Bodley scattered throughout the text. The back matter was also quite impressive: 40 pages of Dramatis Personae (not as excessive as it first appears if these characters continue to play a part in this 9-book pl [...]

    2. I received this book for free from a First Reads giveaway. As I come to the end of this novel I find myself a bit puzzled about how I feel. The writing kept me engaged (seeing as how I read it in a day), but there were a few aspects that bothered me. As the story goes along you become acquainted with several young men who are being shepherded by a sorcerer to a school where they themselves will learn magic. It is a premise with which we are all unduly familiar. My issue is that attending this s [...]

    3. I received a complimentary copy of this book through FirstReads programs for the purposes of review. This book reads like a mashup of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, two of my favorite series. Thaddeus is the son of beekeepers, and a mysterious wizard shows up at his house, tells his parents he is destined for greatness, and takes him to a school where he will learn magic. The rest of the story follows Thaddeus, the wizard, and the other students he picks up along the way. Oh, and his talkin [...]

    5. I won this book through a giveaway on .I wanted to read this book because a lot of my friends are into fantasy. This is one genre that I have avoided mostly due to stereotypes (even though I did read the Harry Potter series). In addition, this book is the first in a series - something that I always value a great deal! Unfortunately, I did not realize how big of a text this book was going to be!

    6. I won/ received this novel on a giveaway!Dang right! I loved- LOVED this book. I can not wait to dig into rest of this series. I am looking forward to continuing on with it. Mr. Sauvain paints a damn fine world. I am going to keep this short so I can go get started on the next book in the series. So without further ado, if you are a fan of fantasy, stop what you are doing and go get this book, and start reading. Go go go! I highly recommend this book! 5+ stars.
