    1. This is the second book in the Midnight Louie series that I've read. In reading my review of Cat in a Quicksilver Caper, I can definitely say that I liked this book more. But I still wasn't a big fan of the story. The book is divided into chapters, some that focus on the main character, Temple Barr, and others that tell the story from Midnight Louie's point of view. Midnight Louie is Temple's cat and I could have done without his chapters. He speaks in, what I believe to be but don't know for sur [...]

    2. Midnight Louie has a very strong voice, but to the point where it became too self-satisfying. Every sentence somehow came back to Louie patting himself on the back. As a result, the mystery never really got going and seemed to be secondary to Louie's perception of himself and the world. And above all, he seems more of a POV character rather than a main character. Very promising concept and character, but just not for me.

    3. The Red Hat Sisterhood hits Vegas, and Temple's landlady, Electra Lark convinces her to attend. When one of the sisterhood is murdered, Temple finds herself looking into the crime, because Electra is one of the suspects!Temple's aunt Kit, in Vegas from New York, is also attacked, and is saved by Aldo, the oldest Fontana brother. As usual, Temple figures out who the killer must be, sets a trap, finds the suspect dead, and Louie must once again come to the rescue.

    4. Most of the time this series is an easy and fun read. This book is one of those times. This time Electra, Temple's eccentric landlady, is wanted for murder and it is up to Temple and Midnight Louie to catch the real killer.I think the fact that these books have a blend of comedy and romance while maintaining its core strength as a mystery. I used to read Nancy Drew as a child and this fits my bill as an adult. Fun read.

    5. There are some authors I don’t even need to know anything about their latest books. I take it on faith that I’ll like whatever they come up with. Usually, Douglas is one of the best. This time, I’m not so sure. The characters are still likeable, but the plot doesn’t gel until about 2/3 of the way through the book. I’m hoping against hope that my favorite character comes out okay. Douglas can’t kill him off. Right?

    6. This installment in the Midnight Louie series holds up on its own much better than some previous books in the series. Temple's investigation to clear her landlord, Electra Lark, of murder is the primary focus and it is done well. The continuing plots don't advance much nor take a lot of time in this book.

    7. The Red Hats come to Vegas, leaving a small trail of murder and mayhem. Since Molina is mysteriously out of the picture it is up to Temple Barr, free lance PR diva extraordinaire, and her erstwhile crew to sort it all out. The tale is a bit convoluted these days but the story remains most intriguing.
