    1. This collection of short stories is an example of the parts not equally the sum. Although written with obvious care, the stories all seem to be snippets of a greater whole. Each story could have been a single chapter pulled out of a larger story. So, I am left wondering why doesn't the author expand on these parts to create a larger work.
