        Paul Zits received his MA in English from the University of Calgary in 2010 His creative dissertation, and first book, Massacre Street University of Alberta Press, 2014 , won the Stephan G Stephansson Award for Poetry at the 2014 Alberta Literary Awards and, his new book, Leap seconds Insomniac Press, 2017 , won the 2016 Robert Kroetsch Award for Innovative Poetry.Zits currently is a teacher with the Calgary Board of Education, and teaches creative writing through both the Edmonton Poetry Festival and the Writers Guild of Alberta.

    1. I bought this book of poetry in Calgary at the Writers' Guild of Alberta Conference. It appealed to me because I wanted to learn more about the Frog Lake Massacre. Sadly, I didn't learn as much as I wanted to from this book, but it did spark my interest and enticed me to do my own research about this tragic event in Canadian history. My favorite poem is on page 103, titled, "Crowfoot Chief of the Blackfoot, like a dark Duke of Wellington, in the house of the 'white' chief with one eye open as th [...]


    2. A fascinating poetic view of the Louis Riel rebellion. Uses a lot of found texts to tell the story. Very well done.


    3. This book does a good job of combining poetry and history. However, after revisiting it and reading more work based in history, I have adjusted my review.
