    About "LarryWeiner"

      • LarryWeiner

Larry Weiner is the author of PARADISE ROT BOOK ONE and ONCE AGAIN, WITH BLOOD BOOK TWO Larry earned a degree in film from CSULA and was an award winning art director And then he got the hell out of Dodge advertising and decided he was better at fiction for the greater good entertainment than fiction to make people buy shit they don t need advertising He d written two novels and a ton of scripts in his 20 s but doesn t really count them as over 20 years passed since writing Paradise Rot So really, let s call Paradise Rot the first novel He lives on an island in the Pacific Northwest with his wife, two kids and a gaggle of animals.

    1. Paradise Rot is a fast, entertaining read with a funny, well-developed plot and characters that I found myself thinking about for days. Weiner writes with a smart, fun, electric style in the vein of Dave Eggers or Chuck Palahniuk. Definitely kept me turning the pages and trying to predict the action (which I was unable to do). Looking forward to more from this author!

    2. Welcome to tropical paradise. Welcome to The Isle of St. Agrippina. White sandy beaches. Delicious blended drinks. And island cuisine. But beware. All is not as it seems. And you just might wind up on the menu. You see, this long abandoned and now reopened and freshly renovated resort is run by zombies. Not the good ones, if there is such a thing, but the hungry ones. And their brains are working just fine. You’ll see.Kyle, an advertising exec, should have known it was too good to be true. In fa [...]

    3. I have never read a zobmie book other than the spoof "Pride Prejudice and Zombies" so was apprehensive as to try "Paradise Rot" by debut author, Larry Weiner. But for the giveaway price of 99cents, meh! Why not? The first page has a description, "A separate ethical distinction can be made between killing a human for food (homicidal cannibalism) and eating the flesh of a person who was already dead (nacre-cannibalism)" which made my brows furrow, and then right below it, "As God is my witness, I [...]

    4. Fun, satire and fast paced action zombie horrorKyle works in advertising has a break down ends up in a mental health ward watching law and order then gets a "dream" job working in the carribean. This was a real fun zombie read felt a little sorry for Kyle constantly passing out but it was so funny. There are two types of zombies in this the animal flesh eating dumb zombies and the human flesh eating smart zombies who look and act like humans but smarter as one of them has the brilliant idea of tur [...]

    5. OMG i can't wait to read this book. i am afraid, though—actually fearful—because i know larry, and i am flailing around wondering what he is going to lob through the broad bay doors of his unconscious at us.

    6. Wanted to like this but it just failed to grab me at all, and I decided to stop throwing good reading time after bad, gave up 25% way in.

    7. Review of Paradise Rot by Larry WeinerParadise Rot is a mixture of thriller, comedy and horror standalone novel that tells the story of Kyle, a guy that lost everything and, without realizing it, got himself into much more trouble than her could handle. Kyle got divorced, lost his money, cat, job and he was even diagnosed with bipolarity. When he had a breakdown at a supermarket, he got restrained and locked into a psychiatric ward. It made me feel sorry for him because anyone would have done wh [...]

    8. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. I reviewed this book in conjunction with a blog tour with Bewitching Book Tours. Are zombie books supposed to be funny? Like laugh out loud kind of funny? The basic answer to that is no; while a lot of them might have interesting characters and zingy one liners between them, the actual story itself isn’t funny. Larry Weiner has done something incredibly uniqu [...]

    9. Disclaimer: Larry Weiner is published by Booktrope, the same publisher which released my debut novella, No Rest for the Wicked. This book was of particular interest to me because Weiner has worked in the same industry as me – I believe he used to be an Art Director, like protagonist Kyle Brightman. Without giving too much away about the plot, I think I can safely tell you that Brightman is hired to bring tourists to a Caribbean island, but one with a twist. It’s ruled by zombies, a bit like a [...]

    10. Kyle needs a new start in life. After years in advertising which led to a stay in the psych ward, he's looking for paradise. He ends up on a Caribbean island called St Agrippina where a new resort is beginning business. His job is to bring the people to vacation on the island. He has a beautiful colleague that he's falling for. What could go wrong? Well, the island resort is run by zombies. Yes, I said zombies. They need a food source and what better way than to bring them to St Agrippina. The n [...]

    11. Paradise Rot was a surprisingly fast read. I enjoyed the book throughout. The author took awhile to get into the zombie action, but once he did the story took off. I have read several zombie titles and this one was a lot different. It is full of funny and exciting action sequences. Kyle is an advertising designer when he's not in rehab. He gets an advertising gig at a Caribbean island resort run by centuries old zombie Jackson. When Kyle meets and falls for beautiful Cate the fun really begins. [...]

    12. Paradise Rot was a fun read! The story is set on a Caribbean island, and on more than one occasion, I wondered if this story idea came to Larry Weiner as he sat relaxing on a beach with a fruity drink topped with an umbrella.I love that we meet Kyle, the main character, in a mental institution. The entire story is filled with unconventional characters, which prove to be very entertaining.I like the way Larry Weiner scatters the story with just the right amount of humorous moments without interru [...]

    13. Definitely not your standard zombie survival story! The author, Larry Weiner, had unique in mind when writing this book. The main character, Kyle, begins his journey in a mental institution, and takes you throughout the adventure of a dream job, dream girl, and paradise, only to find a sci-fi movie come to life. The writing was inventive, adventurous, fun, and definitely had science fiction feel to it(a talking dog.). Personally I like a little more suspense in my zombie fiction, but found that [...]

    14. If I could I would give this a 10 star review. This book is everything. Seriously. I never knew zombies could be so cool. I'm a relative newbie to horror so I may be wrong, but I've never heard of another book that gives zombies the same treatment that vampires normally get. A whole population that thrives due to good management, a plan for the future. It's a great take on them. I really enjoyed it. Also the main cast of characters, the Mild Bunch were awesome. Also,I love Dog. And Desmond. #Tea [...]

    15. Paradise Rot is a fun read with many twists within characters and plot. Furthermore, Weiner's blunt humor gives small hints to bigger picture motifs. The two curious quotes the author chose to open with alone are a good representation of the irony, satire and playfulness that the book immerses you in. Although it might seem like an "entertainment" read on the surface, there is great use of symbolism through plot and description. I know I'm eager to see what book 2 will feature!

    16. Paradise Rot by Larry Weiner is probably one of the most unique books that I have ever read. This book has action, suspense, wit, great characters, a lot of humor and yeszombies! Larry's writing is very clever and hilarious (several times I literally laughed at loud). I am so glad I read this book and already have the second book in the trilogy, Once Again, with Blood, ready to go!

    17. Take a bit of Jimmy Buffett, mix with some undead, stir with bad 70's songs and you have Paradise Rot. It was totally and completely hilarious though I should deduct a half a star because the author doesn't know the difference between an oil derrick and a pump jack. Loved the book so when is the next one?

    18. I started by not really being into this book, but about a quarter of the way through it caught my attention. Best way to describe it is a zombie action comedy. If you like B movies, you will enjoy this.

    19. Okay, there were times the author had me laughing out loud so hard but I don't think I'll read the next book just yet. I do know I'll reread this one and maybe down the line I'll be tempted.

    20. Great zombie spinNew and fantastic spin on zombie genre. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. Great read
