    About "Diane Vallere"

      • Diane Vallere

I grew up reading both Trixie Belden mysteries and Vogue magazine and learned how to spot a counterfeiting ring and accessorize a wardrobe Now I use that knowledge to dream up plots for the Samantha Kidd, Madison Night, Material Witness, and Costume Shop mystery series I still love accessories, only now some of them are accessories to murder.

    1. I started mid-series with this book and after reading it I definitely want to read the rest of the books. I love a mystery with a hook and in this case the hook is fashion. I enjoyed Samantha, her fashion sense, and her friends. The mystery was fairly solid, though there were some clues that I picked up on early and then spent the rest of the book wondering why no one else had noticed them.(Provided by publisher)

    2. I love this series, and Diane Vallere definitely delivered with her third chic and twisty mystery. It's whip-smart with plenty of style (both of the writerly and fashionable kind) from first page until last. Highly recommend!

    3. Samantha is now working for her boyfriend, Nick Taylor, who is also a shoe designer. When she gets a chance to help her friend, Eddie stage a display of vintage Hollywood costumes and hats, she is all in. When hats disappear and reappear, she and Eddie get sucked into another wild mystery. I can't get enough of these lovable but wacky characters as I delve into the world of fashion. The plots only continue to get better and better. Check out this series for some laughs and relaxing reading!

    4. The Brim Reaper was written by Diane Vallere. Although this was the 3rd book in the series, and I have not read the first 2, I didn't have any trouble sorting people out right away. Some series are written so that you have to read them in order, I was glad to find one that wasn't.I think that Ms Vallere has found her place in the cozy mystery home. I liked being taken behind the scenes in the retail business.

    5. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the clever mix of a young, breath-of-fresh-air fashionista with a writing that is reminiscent of old style mystery. The book kept me engaged until the end, and offered a good story and good characters. I have not read the first 2 in the series, but you can jump right into this book without feeling like you're lost or missing something.

    6. When a faded movie star known for her vintage hats and fashions is the subject of an exhibit at the local museum, Samantha Kidd finds herself at the center of a murder investigation. The Brim Reaper is the third book in this series and brings back your favorite characters from the previous books including Samantha Kidd, whose investigative skills sometimes have you screaming NO SAMANTHA! What I love about this series is the nod to classic movies and the love Samantha has for them. Also the menti [...]

    7. The Brim Reaper is amazing. Let me tell you a little about it.Samantha is helping her friend Eddie (a old high school classmate) with a museum exhibit of costumes, shoes, and hats collected from mid-century movies. After some trouble with the hat collection, they discover a body in the museum. Samantha's new boyfriend, Nick, wants her to be safe rather than sleuthy, so she stays away (or tries to) from the museum and looks for another job. The only one she can come up with is showroom manager fo [...]

    9. The Brim Reaper by Diane Vallere is book #3 in the Style & Error Mystery series. It is a cute, light and very cozy mystery based infused with fashion and style. Samantha Kidd is an aspiring fashion buyer who finds herself out of work and helping her close friend Eddie put together an over-the-top exhibit of vintage Hollywood costumes. When the hat boxes arrive, and are empty, the mystery begins. Soon after a murder occurs and the whole event threatens to unravel. While the plot has holes and [...]

    10. In this third book of the series, Samantha has bought her family home, but due to her involvement in solving murders, she has been unemployed for 11 months and finances are getting tight. She is helping her friend Eddie with a museum exhibit pro bono while helping her boyfriend Nick with his new store to make some money and enhance her resume. Meanwhile sexy and tempting Dante shows up. Murder happens at the museum. This is a hard book for me to review, the story interested me enough to keep turn [...]

    11. Diane Vallere uses fashion brilliantly to show character. She understands its place in culture and history. And she uses it to plant clues. I’m not a fashionista—more the opposite—but I loved getting immersed in Samantha Kidd’s personal and professional world of style. She’s a feisty, funny, independent protagonist, determined to help a friend. Vallere successfully sustains the plausibility of the amateur sleuth when Samantha’s good friend and former colleague Eddie becomes a possibl [...]

    12. "When an over-the-top collection of vintage Hollywood costumes comes to Samantha Kidd’s hometown, it brings a hat box full of hype. Close friend Eddie is in charge of the exhibit but when hype turns to homicide, he turns to Samantha for help. Brimming with good intentions, she loops in the cops, but after one too many cloche calls, she’s soon in over her head. If she can tear the lid off the investigation, it might mean a feather in her fedora. And if she can’t? She might get capped."This [...]

    13. The Brim Reaper is the second book by Vallere that I have read, and I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first. Once again Samantha Kidd finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation, and naturally things become chaotic. The one thing that really stands out for me in this series is the characters, and The Brim Reaper brings the characters that I have come to enjoy back for another adventure. Samantha is a great leading character, but I really have come to enjoy Vallere's secondary char [...]

    14. This was my first read in the Samantha Kidd series and I enjoyed it. I love mystery/thriller and especially is they involve women doing the investigation. The book was good with great characters and a lot of unexpected twist and turns. The story is about Samantha Kidd who gets her boyfriend Nick Taylor to hire her to help with his designer shoe showroom. Meanwhile, her friend Eddie is in charge of setting up for a huge hat exhibit and asks Samantha for some help. While there a light fixture nearl [...]

    15. Most of the cozy mystery series I've read feature an older, or at least stuffier, protagonist. In that regard, The Brim Reaper was a breath of fresh air. Samantha Kidd is young, fashionable, and a little bit more fun than many of the other amateur detectives I've read about. This particular adventure finds her helping out with a museum exhibit of vintage hats, and, of course, getting caught up in a murder investigation. There is a bit more romance than in some cozy series, but it's all "off-scree [...]

    16. Diane Vallere is now on tour with CLP Blog Tours and The Brim ReaperI have also read Buyer, Beware and Designer Dirty Laundry in this series, so of course I was excited to head back into Samantha’s fashionable – and murderous – world. This series is such a blast, and the third book was just as fun to read. Of course she gets herself wrapped up in another murder mystery, and I loved that I was surprised at the ending and the whodunit. I honestly didn’t see that coming! Samantha’s romant [...]

    17. I can't decide how I feel about this series. On the one hand, they're fairly enjoyable quick reads. On the other, the protagonist's actions can be rather exasperating, and I often felt as though I was missing some back story. (That may be due to the fact that I didn't read book #2, but I also felt as though I was missing something when I read book #1.) I didn't dislike the two books I've read so far, but I'm not sure I'll read the rest of the series, either.Note: I received this book through the [...]

    18. The Brim Reaper by Diane Vallere is part of her Style & Error mystery series. This is the third book in the series, but the first one I read starring Samantha Kidd. There are some references to Samantha’s past and some mysteries solved by her, which might catch a first time reader off base.A Million Kindle Books

    19. I borrowed a copy of this for review from NetGalley.I thought this book was just okay. I wished it was better but I couldn't connect with the story or the characters. I also wish the mystery had been more interesting by the end I didn't care who the murder was.

    20. This series is lots of fun. There were a couple of somewhat contrived moments in this book, but they didn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the situations this character experiences. Her fashion choices are hilarious!

    21. Who would think hats could lead to murder? Samantha Kidd is just doing a friend a favor when her life imitates art. This is a fast paced, fun read that deftly mixes modern day life with a vintage movie star. Don't miss this book.

    22. The third of the series. Not quite as entertaining as the first two but still interesting. Unfortunately the resolution was out of left field so the end wasn't quite satisfying but the characters are still quite likeable.

    23. A nicely convoluted mystery that keeps the reader completely at sea. This story will be especially appreciated by anyone with an interest in style and clothing, because there's lots of that here.

    24. Fun reading. Clever word play. Unusual taste in fashion, but to each her own style. Nice series. Looking forward to the next one.

    25. Prose style: 4Plot: 4Depth of characters: 3Originality: 3Entertaining: 3Emotional Reaction: 3Intellectual Stimulation: 3An okay mystery, nothing special but not bad either.
