    1. It was good to get the first seven chapters for free.I read them. Now I know that I will not buy a copy because it did not captivate me.

    2. A bit of advice to those wanting to write fantasy novels: Your fantasy world is NOT intrinsically as interesting as YOU think it is. You're going to have to capture my (your reader's) interest if you want me to read your book. That means you need to have a strong beginning to your story. Just telling me about your world is BORING (ie. You're not Tolkien, get over it). Simple conversations between characters or "day-in-the-life" stuff is BORING, too. At least save it for later, don't OPEN your st [...]

    3. I read this preview over at Tor where it was recently serialised ,tor/features/series/br This looks like being one of the most exciting debuts of 2014, the first seven chapters were evocative and exciting and the series looks like delivering a heady mix of interesting cultures, religions and politics set in a fascinating world. It's difficult just to say how good it will be based on seven chapters and but I personally can't wait for the full novel. Also, giant bird flying ninjas!

    4. The prologue was so good, but the (unrelated) rest was kind of misogynistic and maybe a little juvenile when describing fat characters. It all suffered from repetitiveness. It all suffered from repetitiveness.

    5. I'm actually reading the full book now, not just the first 7 chapters, but entirely on the weight of this sample.

    6. I was not given any reason to care about these people. Thanks, Tor, for the extended sample, but I won't be buying the book.

    7. Makes me very excited to read the full book. The concept is neat and interesting, and I have high hopes for unpredictability in the full version.

    8. A must readAwesome read and a must read.An inspirational book .cAnt wait until I read the last row of his series.

    9. From the sample, falls into the trap that far too many of these types of series do: too much world-building, not enough character development.
