    1. What does it take to make a better life for yourself? How is a better life even possible when your family is falling apart while you’re stuck in jail? For Angel, life has never been easy but she’s managed to reorganize it to fit her circumstances – multiple times over. When tragedy strikes and she’s locked away from those she loves it’s a battle of wills between me, myself, and I in order to assess the damages of a heart wrung out one too many times.Miss Carr launches readers immediate [...]

    2. Bell, Book & Candle | Family Tree ReviewThis novel really hit home for me as I started reflecting on my own family life when I finished reading this. I'm sure anyone can, to some extent, relate to this story. As much as we would like to believe otherwise, no one has the perfect family or is without the dreaded family drama. There's a saying that "blood is thicker than water", but after reading about Angel's family I say, "true, but it's more difficult to clean up when it spills".The protagon [...]

    3. What this family endures, learns about one another, and experiences, is both painful and gut-wrenching. This novel brought to light a lot of feelings for me, though I have never been through what this family has been through, and it was left in the same tone it began. This is a devastatingly lovely novel about family and the fractures caused by outside influences and a broken system. It’s definitely a book one must read.

    8. [ I received this book free from the publisher through NetGalley. I thank them for their generousity. In exchange, I was simply asked to write an honest review, and post it. 9. Angel has been convicted and sent to prison. While she is there, she is informed of a family tragedy: her sister Lady has hanged herself. She is released for the funeral and when she meets her family again, memories of her childhood, when Lady was her dearest companion arise. Why didn’t anybody prevent this from happening? And are there underneath it all recurring structures in this family. Back in jail again, Angel finally can make peace with herself and her family. For me, the novel lacked fo [...]

    10. Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this book and give my honest opinion.I had no expectations going into this book. After I finished it, I learned that this is a book based on the author, Andrea N. Carr's real life. I really liked this book. It is not written in chronological order; so the reason why the protagonist was in jail seemed to me a bit confusing. Other than that, I was involved from the very beginning and could not put it down. I wanted to know why her sister, Lady, committed [...]

    11. When a crisis acts as a catalyst of self exploration for the main character. Evaluating the meaning of her relationships with other family members after a sibling suicide. Also, touching on addiction and incarceration but most, how to reach acceptance when one may never get the answers sought to move on. Coming to a heuristic end to the story. Based on what she knows, or has decided to be true from understanding of what is known.Though, the novel is a family saga - It is the internal monolog of [...]

    12. Angel is in jail on a driving with a suspended license charge. She is then informed that her sister had hung herself and was dead. To top that off, Angel’s young son found his aunt. Angel’s released for the funeral where she sees her family again. Then memories of Lady, her sister, come, back when Lady was her well loved companion. it made you feel like you were there with Angel going through everything she was at this hard time in her life. Families can be so difficult and confusing to rela [...]

    13. *Disclaimer: I was provided an ARC from the publisher in return for a fair and honest review.I found this memoir by Andrea N. Carr difficult to follow; it seemed to jump from place to place, time period to time period. There are also slang terms used that are not explained, so there were times that I had no idea what she was talking about. Overall, this book is in desperate need of a good editor.

    14. A book that drew me in from the first pages an emotional ride seen through Angel Harpers eyes.A Book that will have you thinking even after you finish the last page,

    15. I would like to thank Netgalley for providing me with a free kindle copy of Family Tree. Whilst reading this book, I felt very frustrated with the characters and the repeated mistakes they made in their lives. Their interactions with each other were dysfunctional and seemed to lack emotion. The ending changed some of my thoughts on why the characters acted the way they did and this insight earlier would of changed my opinion of the book. Some reviews mentioned that Family Tree was a memoir which [...]
