    1. Revolutionary Detroit is not the smoothest, best-written history of a time and place I have ever read. It was a college assignment - each student was given a different topic to research and write about, and those essays were collected into this book. This makes some aspects of some chapters repetitive. I knew nothing about Detroit in the Revolution. The city was so far west, I assumed it wasn't involved. Wrong.     2. A collection of essays by graduate and undergraduate students at Wayne State University. They take on the little studied influence of Detroit during the American Revolution. The editing process makes the writing a bit choppy but the research is impeccable. Several of the essays even attempt to break new ground. Great honor for a bunch of students being published for the first time.
