    1. Once again, Mildred Hubble proves herself to be the unluckiest witch alive. Or Ethel proves herself to be the worst witch alive. Whichever you prefer. I don’t know how Mildred didn’t see it coming. I know I did, and so will any other reader, though perhaps not the targeted audience? If so, then the predictability is fine. Mildred’s just too trusting for her own good. In spite of seeing the main events coming from kilometres away, I found myself extremely entertained by this sequel. I’m a [...]

    2. I've got to the age of 28 and it would appear I'm regressing in my reading habits. With The Worst Witch series of books I just couldn't resist. I remember them as favourites from my childhood. No offence to the author they are never going to be literary masterpieces but that was not was I was looking for when I went back to these old friends. I often will go back to children's books when I'm looking for some light relief or something bright and breezy when I feel a bit bogged down from heavy read [...]

    3. Sometimes you just need to read children's books.I adore Mildred Hubble and I adore this series. It's been lovely reading about Miss Cackle's Academy again over the past 2 days. And the books are just the right length to read during a lunch break. A wonderful little series that I cannot recommend enough.

    4. My least favourite Worst Witch book, partly because I'm too old for talking animals and partly because Mildred was a complete IDIOT to tell Ethel all about her holiday project in such detail. But mostly I hate this book because of Maud and Enid being the worst friends ever by not taking Mildred's side. I don't care how unbelievable it is that Mildred would outshine Ethel in class (although really, Mildred was far more likely to come up with a spell involving animals than Ethel). As Mildred's bes [...]

    5. Author/Illustrator: Jill MurphyFirst Published: 2007Series: Book 6 of 7, Summer Term, Year 3.Jill Murphy has grown as an author. From her first Worst Witch book in 1974 (written at just 18) to her sixth and strongest 33 years latest, we have seen her progress. It isn't that the early books were *bad*, it's that this latest book is *better*.In "The Worst Witch To The Rescue" Murphy gives a more emotionally engaging story (the 7yo cried) with a good lesson that struck a chord in me - and what many [...]

    6. d so, the last of The Worst Witch series, at least until Jill Murphy decides to write another. The series has been added to very slowly over the decades since the first book was released. They've improved over time too. Finally in this book, Milly actually is portrayed as actually pretty capable in her own right, she outsmarts the others, Ethel in particular - though it all goes wrong for her, as it always does. She is such a gentle, kind and hopeful girl, you cannot help routing for her, or bein [...]

    7. Loved this book,. perfect for 2nd grade and 3rd grade. I recommended it tot he Librarian at my school and she is going to buy the first three books.

    8. This book was another ok book in the series. It's still not the best series I've ever read but it's not the worst either. I think one of the main problems I have with this series is that Mildred never seems to learn. She always trusts Ethel no matter what. I think it's great that she's nice to her even when Ethel can be so mean but that doesn't mean she had to constantly trust her to help her with everything and has to tell her everything. Also it bothers me that Miss Hardbroom is always so mean [...]

    9. Another cute and funny novel in the series. The girls were given homework during the break and now it's time for the term to start. Mildred has a wonderful spell she came up with which allows small animals to talk for two weeks after which they never talk again. She also brings a tortoise to school which is, of course, not allowed.A girl named Ethel really dislikes Mildred and steals her new spell. From then on it's a matter of misunderstandings and incriminations. Time is running out and the onl [...]

    10. This installment is one of my favorite's. We get to see Mildred overcome hardship by doing what she does best; being a lovely person and never giving up. She is still incredibly naïve, but so charming. I remember loving this series as a child, and still enjoy it so much.

    11. Even as an adult I was captured by the conflict in this one and was so very pleased when Ethel gets caught out. It's about time.

    12. Another book one of my nieces was reading. Very cute, enjoyable book. Great character development and story line that moves along. Going to read the rest of this series.

    13. At last, Ethel Hallow gets her comeuppance! One of the things I like most about the Worst Witch series is that Ethel usually does receive some punishment for her actions, unlike the villains in some other kids' books. But in this sixth book in the series, Ethel finally gets what she truly deserves(view spoiler)[, called out in front of all the other students and staff for her cheating and dishonesty and forced to apologize to Mildred. (hide spoiler)] For readers who have been rooting for Mildred, [...]

    14. Get ready for a magical adventure! This great book by Jill Murphy features Mildred Hubble (who is attempting to change her bad reputation), her two best friends, Ethel, and a tortoise. Mildred is returning once more to Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches, but this time she has prepared a project that will be sure to impress everyone. However, Ethel is involved, meaning things can’t go as planned. As soon as the classes begin Ethel is destroying Mildred’s perfect start to the school term. In t [...]

    15. This one is extremely annoying, as the events seem to unfold in total ignorance of any and all past character development, such as it was. At the end of it all, Ethel should not only be expelled from Miss Cackle's Academy but also be banned from practising witchcraft at all in my opinion, but it seems that she's escaped with little more than a rap on the knuckles yet again!Jill Murphy's sudden attempt to make the girls speak in contemporary schoolyard vernacular is horribly misjudged and at leas [...]

    16. This was the best one so far in the series. Mildred finally showing her potential and with animals, I was racing to the end, when I would find out how out worked out for clever Milly. It's a shame when even your friends are unsure whether or not to believe you. Ethel finally got what she deserved, she is the real trouble maker after all. Mildred never seems to get her into trouble even when it is all her fault. Once again Mildred is just trying to do the right thing and it only gets her into tro [...]

    17. As I said about book number five, a longer story and more involved than the first books, so a higher rating. In fact, I could not put this one down the story it was so exciting! A definite yes for a young reader's first on their own series, and still perfect for a chapter a night bedtime story for younger children. Absolutely perfect for children too young for Harry Potter, but wanting a story about a magic school. I will be reviewing the series on my Children's book blog and will add the link h [...]

    18. I have enjoyed every book in this series so far, but this one is the strongest of the lot (so far). It's a surprisingly complex tale for such a little book. For once, Mildred is the star pupil. And the former star pupil likes it not at all. Even old H.B. has to recognized Mildred's talent. Of course along the way there is a ton of trouble for Mildred that nearly gets her expelled. The illustrations for this series have been nothing short of perfect, and probably the best I've seen for chapter bo [...]

    19. This is the sixth book! I meant to read the second book. Duh. But this was fabulous! Ethel Hallow is one of my favourite literary characters, and I was thrilled that she and Mildred were co-starring the sixth book. Though it was disappointing that, in the end, Ethel's character was reduced to "someone who feels like being a jerk 90% of the time" it was a promising start to some real character development. Six books in and they're only in third form, hurray! More, more, more!

    20. As always I just loved Mildred Hubble's new term exploits at Miss Cackle's Academy for Young Witches, and was very glad to see awful Ethel Hallow get her come-uppance in this one. The tortoise, Speedy (later more respectfully named Einstein) was a sweet new character. Lovely books for building reading stamina and fluency.

    21. The final Worst Witch book, and I have to say that Mildred very much comes into her own in this one. This is the book of the series where a lot of hte characters' traits are made very exeternal. It was once again,a cute, sweet and enjoyable read. I'm so glad I picked up these books as easy reading during my final essays.

    22. A wonderful read from my childhood, one I’d certainly suggest for other youngsters. Whilst it is not my all-time favourite childhood read I can still recall all the details of this one meaning it certainly left a lasting impression upon my young mind. And isn’t that what we want with children’s books, for them to leave a positive lasting impression?

    23. Another enjoyable adventure with the awesome Worst Witch. At first I was really annoyed with Ethel's meanness this booke ending fixed that, I'm glad she finally got her comeuppance. Beautifully illustrated as always.
