    1. I really don't know what to say other than, it took me 6 days to finish reading a 219 page book. That for me, is atrocious. I'm almost disappointed in myself. But it was that bad. A lesfic Cinderella adaptation, that just felt off from the very beginning. Setting the awkwardness of (view spoiler)[stepsisters falling madly in love with each other aside (taboo, shit is taboo) (hide spoiler)], there is no chemistry between the MC and secondary lead, and the "powerful" magical villain is easily subd [...]

    2. REVIEWED ON BOOKLIKESI guess I can sum this up as a disappointing read.I'm a sucker for fairy tale retellings, the romance being about two girls helps the book sell quicker. So I actually read most of the book, just was dissatisfied by the plot and didn't really care how the story ended.POSSIBLE SPOILERS! (Also, I'm not the nicest when I review books I didn't like. So beware dramatic criticism.)(view spoiler)[Eleanor (Ellie) is moves in with her father and his new wife after her mother dies. She [...]

    3. This book is all kinds of wrong.I didn't want to review it but I finally decided it is way too unhealthy to not be pointed out for what it is. If it had merely been badly written, with enormous plot holes, an unbelievable romance and awful smut, I wouldn't have. But the romance is very unhealthy. And seeing as it is a fairytale retelling that might be compelling to young women questioning themselves, I believe they should be aware of the overall wrongness of it.Other than the fact that they're i [...]

    4. Well really I have nothing positive to say about this bookI felt only half a story was being told, not much made sense to me in the first half but what I read of the second half amazed me, I'm really not sure what happened but the villain so to speak (Luciana) kind of disappeared, all cruelty stopped, just plain weird.I didn't feel the love at all with the Belladonna and Ellie, One minute Ellie didn't even give a thought to having a lover then the next minute she was madly in love! What's all th [...]

    5. 3.75 stars.I picked this book completely at random based upon the blurb. I thought it sounded similar to Cinderella and then realized it *was* Cinderella retold. That's fine. I enjoy old fairy tales and stories that are given a sapphic twist. The writing flows and characters big and small are well drawn. The author did a good job of setting up Ellie's (aka Cinderella's) turn from a lady of the house to a servant, not skimping on the details there. I appreciated that. Cate's character, another ser [...]

    6. 2.7 starsF/F fantasy, erotic romance*rape, incest triggersThere are some spoilers ahead.Adapted from the Cinderella story, this lesbian rendition follows young and innocent Eleanor ("Ellie") whose life takes a dramatic turn for the worse when her father remarries Lady Kingsclere and she is forced to move into Baxstresse Manor with her two new and questionable stepsisters.Luciana and Belladonna turn out to be quite a pair. Luciana is an evil bitch who tortures and rapes their servants. sexy and p [...]

    7. This book requires a trigger warning for rape and incest."Queer Cinderella," I thought. "That'll be awesome." Unfortunately, this isn't the case. The Second Sister is compelling in a number of ways. Well, mainly I'm in favor of the talking animals. Jessith the cat is an A+ character. However, this book is also poorly edited, confusing, and filled with abuse. The antagonist is a sadistic rapist and the love interest, while theoretically an okay person, stands by and does nothing while the main ch [...]

    8. EnchantingI picked this book up free from an email for book deals. I've become entranced with queer fiction and love fairytale.Ellie is the daughter of a rich nobleman sent to live with her stepmother and 2 stepsister's, she has the gift of talking to animals but as magic is illegal she keeps it secret. She meets Lucinda and Belladonna, she is frightened by Lucinda from the start due to her magic senses, she finds herself confused by Belladonna but finds both women beautiful. The home is full of s [...]

    9. I'm 6% in. The book isn't worth reading. The writer struggles writing what she's writing, the characters are weird and not well described. Not an interesting incipit and not an interesting fantasy world. In the beginning of the book the writer says "I would like to thank all the amazing people who helped me through the thrilling but EXHAUSTING process of writing this novel". Hey! I'm feeling her exhaustion and it's even not a good result!

    10. 1, 5*I don't know how to rate this. It wasn't the worst read of my life, and the writing was actually fun, for the most part. But there was no plot, other than a smutty version of Cinderella. The sex scenes became too many after a point, and the second half of the book was a bore. Warnings for rape and "incest", in case you're easily shocked.

    11. While I enjoyed that the story was a retelling of Cinderella but with an LGBT twist, I don't think it was really all that well done and if you're going to write all those supposedly raunchy scenes you should probably know what you're talking about.

    12. Nearly perfect After a bit of a slow start, I was hooked. I couldn't wait to see what happens next, but I didn't want it to end. It is so beautiful how the forms of the Cinderella tale are woven in. I'm buying book 2 immediately.

    13. DNF at 50%Premise was interesting. Execution was all sorts of wrong. Not for me I'm afraid, although props were due the love scene was hot. Edit: removed my read dates as I don't want a DNF counting towards my challenge.

    14. I absolutely loved reading this story. No fairy tale retelling comes CLOSE to what Rae's done with Cinderella, and I can't wait for the sequel. I bought the e-book, and I've already ordered it in paperback! The chemistry and interactions between Belle and Ellie are perfectly balanced between electricity and passion, and sweet tenderness. This is my favourite of the original works I've read by this author so far. It's BRILLIANT. As always, Rae's characters shine, coming to life as full, dynamic, [...]

    15. This was an unexpectedly lovely read, thoroughly enjoyable and very sensual too. The beautiful cover was what caught my eye while I was browsing Bella Books, and it was interesting from the start. Though I only realized it was supposed to be a Cinderella story about halfway through, but it was really well done. Very memorable, very sensuous and very fun to read. I'm probably of the minority opinion, but I very much prefer this book's Cinderella retelling over Malinda Lo's Ash. No doubt Ash is we [...]

    16. I got addicted to this series and read them all in quick succession.I don't know why there are so many lesbian retellings of Cinderella. Despite that, this was still fun, although the romantic leads hook up super early--during Act 1 or around 25% of the book, iirc, which diminished some of the tension. Still, I really enjoyed their relationship, the worldbuilding, the fact that they were both gold stars. The ending wrapped up the love interest's internal genre arc a bit suddenly and felt rushed [...]

    17. 4 stars, re-readable. This was actually not exactly what I was expecting, but a decent book just the same. It's well written with interesting, and pleasantly open-minded, characters. However, the evil sister was way more evil than anticipated - slight spoiler, she's a rapist. I'll admit to being a bit worried when this was revealed because I then had concerns it might be a 'fear the gays' type book, but that was not the case. The romantic story arc was between two women and (fortunately) not sca [...]

    18. I know I work with Rae as a fellow writer, but The Second Sister is actually a book of hers I read before we started working together, and it impressed me. It still impresses me. The Second Sister features well developed characters that you honestly care about. The villain is downright creepy, and there is definitely something at stake in this story. You get emotionally involved with these characters in a way that not many stories accomplish. The side characters are just as good, and I can't wai [...]

    19. I think I ended up liking it way more than I expected to. The main characters are all well written and the animals are all quite entertaining. However to me, it felt like the author was setting up a romance for Ellie and then did a 180 and had her end up with someone different. While the romance was nice at times it leaned heavy into erotica territory. Personally not a huge fan of it so I tended to skip over those parts.Cate's character was by far my favorite. Her journey through the story is so [...]

    20. I read this book with what I can almost describe as a sense of dread. It is definitely the most well-written book of Rae's so far, the characters and setting came alive in a way most books don't do for me anymore and I started reading it with dread of what would happen next because I cared for the characters that much. A very, very good book and I definitely recommend it. Especially if you, like me, love that type of bittersweet torture when you're enjoying a plot and in the same time desperatel [...]

    21. I was happily entertained with this book. I like the premise. The writing and characterization wee good. I thought the story was original and I like the twists and turns that came with everything. It was memorable.

    22. This whole series is on my "Will Buy" list. Its hard enough finding sci fi and/or fantasy that's well written but also with any same sex relationships? That's even more rare. Reminds me of Lynn Flewelling's Nightrunner series.

    23. Good bookI thought this was a very interesting take on the Cinderella story and I loved all the complications that they had to overcome.
