    1. Great, great book!I cannot stress enough how great this book is. Nor do I think I'm capable to do justice for this book with my mediocre review. This book is exactly what it says it is. It's a history of the English language. Where it came from, how it'd formed. All grouped in 'lectures' from the author. An absolute MUST read!Peace,A.

    2. I suppose a topic as large as The History of the English Language is too large to thoroughly cover in a mere twelve hours for this The Great Courses title left me somewhat disappointed, most likely because I could not help but compare it to Melvyn Bragg’s The Adventure of English miniseries I saw on The History Channel years ago. Unfortunately Dr. Seth Lerer is no Melvyn Bragg and The Great Courses is not the BBC. The course is broken into three main parts, the roots of English and Old English [...]

    3. For the most part, deeply enjoyable. Full of details and interesting takes on historical researchers of language. The three lectures I was unsure of, or felt could have been handled in a more thoughtful or thorough way, were the lectures on Black American English, Indian English, and the influence of technology on English. Much of the phraseology is awkward in the first two lectures I mention, and has unfortunate implications, and while I appreciate the frequently verbalized rejection of value ju [...]

    4. Really interesting course. I'm not a native english speaker which means I could also learn a couple of more things from this than someone who is.I would not recommend it to someone who is not fairly fluent in english as it's clearly aimed for native english speakers. If you're interested in languages this is definetely one you would enjoy!I would say that the first half is 5/5 and the second half is 3/5 which makes this a 4 star average (a bit slower towards the end as it is quite a few hours all [...]

    5. I found this interesting and entertaining. I love learning about the English Language and I think this audio did a good job covering a lot of the history. It expanded my knowledge of English and the love of the history for it. If anything this book has me looking forward to learning more about the History of the English Language.
