    1. This was a book recommendation by a couple of my students who love horses and dogs. I think for Jenna it had been a very meaningful book for her. I enjoyed the book especially the close family relationships between the protagonist Kristine and her grandparents. I loved that most of the story takes place on a farm and that the families do simple things like make homemade popcorn and sit down for meals as a family. The main conflict is that Kristine, a middle schooler, is finding it difficult to o [...]

    2. Kristine Rankin, her parents and two younger sisters live on a farm near her grandparents, Papa and Meme. When Dandy, a beloved horse, dies from old age, Kristine is heart-broken. But, life goes on and Kristine is expecting her 11th birthday to be filled with surprises. Little does she know that her grandparents are going to surprise her with a new puppy. When Mattie, the puppy, is presented, she is full of anger and resentment. She does not want another pet who she will become attached to and t [...]

    3. This week I read a cute book called "No Dogs Allowed" by Bill Wallace. The book starts off talking about losing Dandy, her family's beloved horse, Kristine decides that she will never get close to another pet again. It's just too heartbreaking. So when her father surprises her with a new puppy for her birthday, Kristine is furious! With a new sister on the way, who need a wriggling, messy, noisy yellow ball of fur to look after? But how can an animal-loving girl resist the sweet brown eyes of a [...]

    4. This book is about a girl who's horse died. Then she gets a dog for her birthday, and she doesn't want it, because if she starts loving it, she'll be sad when it dies. It's a very good book.-Rita Wegner

    5. This book had my kids in tears over and over. The point at the end was okay but I was tired of the re-hashing of the same heartache.

    6. I remember this book as my first real big chapter book when I was in third grade and I fell in love with this book. THIS BOOK MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH READING!!!

    7. Lizzie: If there were half stars, I would give this 4 1/2. I liked this book a lot. Every chapter had a cliffhanger, which made it hard to put down.

    8. This story is talking about a little girl who names Kristin. After she lost her last pet horse. She is afraid of losing, that's why she doesn't want to a new dog. But when her birthday her grandpa give her a little dog and that day her little sister also was born. So the story all talking about the little girl how to receive a new dog. And overcome the fear. And her classmates names Matt. A cute and nice boy. But at the beginning she does not like that boy, but because the dog also make them know [...]

    9. My book is about this girl who got a dog for her birthday, but she wasn’t ready for a dog because her horse just passed away. She also didn’t want a dog because she didn’t want to lose another pet. But she didn’t want to upset her dad since she got the dog from her dad. So she’s trying to get used to the dog but it’s really hard for her to. Her mom and dad live out in the country. They have a little farm house with a big yard and a big plot of grass for where the horse was. Whenever [...]

    10. No Dogs Allowed was an OK book. Kristie is devastated when her grandparents horse died. She agrees that she will never get close to a pet again. Kristie lives on a small farm with her dad, mom, and soon to be brother. Family and homework of course comes first in the house. Kristie has a very strong relationship with her grandparents. Kristie and her grandpa are always stealing cookie dough when grandma isn't looking. But for her 10th birthday, her grandpa thought it was a good idea to buy puppy [...]

    11. Obviously I'm in the minority here, but I really disliked this book. Being an adult, I realize I am not the target audience for No Dogs Allowed, however I read this book aloud to my children, and they were as bored and frustrated by it as I was. With too many random details and plot lines, 224 pages in this case, felt like an eternity. The story begins with a girl named Kristine who is missing her family's horse, Dandy, who has died. Not to downplay Kristine's sadness over losing a pet, but readi [...]

    12. No Dogs Allowed! is a book I read in elementary school. I loved it then and I still enjoyed it now. It is definitely one of those animal books that any animal lover will enjoy. Girls especially will be attracted to this book because the main character is a girl. In the beginning she doesn't want another pet because her close pet passed away of old age. But once her grandparents buy her a puppy for her birthday, she has to eventually change her mind. I think this is a great book for elementary st [...]

    13. This is a cute story with some good messages in it. It's about an 11 yr. old who has just lost a beloved horse, and now she's gotten a puppy for her birthday. She swears she won't love the puppy because she doesn't want to get hurt down the road. She ignores it, pushes it away, etc. Of course, by the end of the story, the dog is there for her when she is scared and hurting and she realizes that she loves the puppy after all.Being an animal lover myself, I actually had a hard time believing that [...]

    14. I thought that this book was really good. Bill Wallace always does a fantastic job with his books. He is one of my top favorite authors. The main character is a girl named Kristine. She and her family have recently lost their beloved horse, Dandy. She was sweet and gentle- anything you would want in a horse. It is almost Kristine's birthday, so her family throws her a surprise party. She receives plenty of happiness while she chats, eats, and opens her gifts. But, what she was not expecting was [...]

    15. This book was my favorite book for several years when I was in elementary school. I probably read it the first time in 2nd or 3rd grade and it remained my favorite book until 5th grade. It was the first book I reread, and then I reread it again! I got made fun of by my brother for reading the same story over and over, but I just loved it. It helped that I loved stories about dogs and other animals, but for some reason this one just soared to the top of my list. Now I can't really remember what i [...]

    16. It was a good book it reminded me a whole lot of my dog that I lost. When Kristine lost her horse and she didn't want to get close to another animal because of the fear of losing it I can relate to that a lot. But in the book they say losing an animal and the pain that comes with it is bond to happen sooner or later and their right you have to learn to let go and love something that needs love now not sob about the animal that you just lost. The book is more for younger people but it has a strong [...]

    17. Kristine loved her Grandma's horse Danny, but when he died she shuts animals out. Than for her birthday her parents and grandparents gave her a dog. Kristine is not happy. She pretends to like the dog, but she does not want it. She doesn't want the dog because she doesn't want to get attached to the dog then lose it. She tries to ignore the dog, but the dog loves to be with Kristine. Read this book to find out if Kristine ever loves this dog.Although this isn't my favorite book I liked this book [...]

    18. This book is about a girl named kristine who's birthday is in a couple of days. On her birthday her mom and dad got her a puppy but when her familys horse had died she never wanted to get another pet. Her mom was also pregnant and she had a puppy to look after to. At first the dog stayed at her grandparents house because her mom and dad had nowhere to put the puppy. When she is trying to show her parents and granparents that she trained her her garndparents leave unexpectedly because the dog is [...]

    19. This book was about a girl named Christine and a dog. In the beginning Christine didn't want a dog because she had a horse that had died and she was afraid of losing the dog the same way she lost Dandy, her horse.I liked this story because it showed how Christine found her way past her sadness over losing her horse to loving her new puppy named Mattie. It told about how her grandma helped her get over losing her horse and how to move on to loving other animals. I liked this because grandparents [...]

    20. This book was very sad at the beginning. Dandy is now out of their lives they are all so sad. Meme is the main character in the story and her and Dandy became very close. My favorite part is when Meme found this dog and cannot bare to take even though she wants so bad. I think the author made a few errors in this book or maybe i didn't understand what he was saying.I encourage people to read this book and see what it is about.

    21. I got this little kids book at the thrift store for my mom to read. She reallly enjoyed it and wanted me to read it too. I could read these kind of books when I was little straight through so fast. this took me a few days. because I have more things to do now. It was a cute story of a little girl and her puppy and it had a lot of good side stories in it if I had a little girl I would hope that she would read this.

    22. No Dogs Allowed is a really great book. It's about this girl, and it was her birthday, and her dad got her a puppy and she did not like it at all. So she tells her dad that she dosen't want it. But after she tells him that, she feels really bad so she tells him he likes it. And you are going to have to read the book to find out more about I think everyone shoould read it, you would love it.

    23. awww poor doggie. oh sorry off topic :P anyways this book teaches u to not blame ur insecurites on others this case the girl in it had a horse that died and she really liked it. but then she got a puppy but she didn't want to play with it because she was afraid that if she got too attached to it, she would feel really bad when it dies.

    24. An appropriately written book for the intended grade levels (4-6).Kristine doesn't want to get attached to another animal after her horse died. So when her grandparents get her a puppy for her birthday, Kristine fights against caring for it at all. She doesn't want to feel anything for the puppy, but it is determined to find a place in Kristine's heart.
