    1. Five stars for art, four stars for stories. This is a freestanding issue of POPE HATS (not requiring the reader to own the first three issues). It consists of eleven self-contained short stories, plus a letters page, on 36 cream-colored oversize pages with a cardstock cover. 2. I didn't get much out of this comic the first time through, but upon a second reading, I began to understand a lot of what Rilly's going for here. In fact these stories (some of them interconnected) remind me of work I've recently read by Seth (Palookaville #22) and Adrian Tomine (Optic Nerve #14), stories about how the passage of time changes us - or doesn't - and how we deal with it - or don't.

    3. You're going along, enjoying the glimpses of humanity in these mood-provoking short stories, and then WHAM, 5-parter "The Nest," about a couple dealing with their daughter's schizophrenia, blows you away.

    4. Slice of life short stories. I didn't have access to the previous publications, but many of the stories were new. The art is excellent and captures the scenes beautifully. Read it in one sitting :)
