    1. As anyone who regularly reads my reviews knows by now, I'm a fan of the travel memoir in all its forms. If its basis is an epic quest whether driving the length of the continent, hiking border to border, or biking across Europe, I'm there. If someone wrote a book about setting out to eat at all the Taco Bells in South Dakota, I'd give it a try. Wild Tanuki with its tale of skateboarding the length of Japan seems like it should be a perfect fit. The reality is mixed. Some of the things I like to r [...]

    2. Anyone who has ever had the travel bug, has been backpacking or had a sense of adventure will be able to relate to this book. The author tells of his inexplicable fascination and draw to Japan and how he eventually manages to settle there with a girlfriend, named ‘Zucchini’. Elliott’s story of Skateboarding on his own from North to South all the way through Japan reminded me of my own fascination with different cultures and the odd and little moments that can teach you more about a country [...]

    3. Sean keeps you turning the pages. His words and thoughts are like a modern day Charles Bukowski. His adventure is not unlike a Hunter S. Thompson trip. This book is highly entertaining and a wild ride. Read it now you won't be sorryitter/awildtanukiamazon/Sean-Elliott/e/ Wild Tanuki: From Lost To Found Skateboarding Across Japan

    4. I picked up this book for two reasons. I’ve never succeeded in balancing on a skateboard, plus I love travelling but one country I’ve never visited is Japan. The prologue should have warned me what to expect; Elliot Burley is every mother’s nightmare offspring. It didn’t; I assumed the author would grow up before he tackled his ambitious journey. Judging by the amount written about his sexual thoughts and exploits, he failed to mature. There is a story here, but editing out the tasteless [...]
