    1. Shaft’s Revenge was originally serialised as a Smart Phone download as part of the initial comic book series’ 6-issue run. It has now finally been released in paperback form with a cover by Francesco Francavilla (who also contributed covers to the initial Dynamite comic book series) styled in similar fashion to the original UK Corgi books. In the story, Shaft is urgently summoned by Harlem crime lord Knocks Persons, but on arrival at Persons’ home Shaft and Bamma Brooks, the gangster’s r [...]

    2. I know Shaft from the movies, but I've never read the original books by Ernest Tidyman-- so David F. Walker's continuation of the series is my introduction to Shaft in prose. I'm a fan of Walker's work and enjoy the Shaft comics he wrote for Dynamite (as well as his POWER MAN & IRON FIST and NIGHTHAWK books for Marvel), so reading this book was a given for me.This story is a real page turner. It's tougher and grittier than I expected, with very entertaining prose. The characters are all well [...]

    3. Shaft's Revenge by David F. Walker far exceeded my expectations. Somewhat familiar with Walker's work from the world of comics, I bought this directly from him at a convention hoping to get some gritty escapism without much in the way of expectation. My expectations have been far surpassed by what I've read. This is a hard boiled detective novel sharing more in common with Sam Spade than Hercule Poirot. But it feels like so much more. There's a dash of the violent written version of James Bond b [...]

    4. This book is set in 1972 and the author makes it clear that this is different from the movie version of John Shaft. During the course of the story, Walker brings out that Shaft got so popular from the experiences in the first book (by Ernest Tidyman) that he - Shaft - became popular and had a movie made about him (i.e. the movie with Richard Roundtree). The book also makes references to 1971's "Shaft Among the Jews" and features the character Knocks Persons who turned up in the first Shaft novel [...]

    5. Shaft's Revenge may be the first Shaft novel in over forty years, but it's set way back in 1972. There's a huge amount of swearing, plenty of shoot outs & many familiar characters from Ernest Tidyman's original novels. It doesn't work as well as the author's recent graphic novel Shaft: A Complicated Man, but it's still good entertainment.

    6. Gritty and real dialog, on top of a depth of 70's New York makes this an amazing read. Now if only we can get another.

    7. I was prepared to rate this book a solid 4, when it just ended. I'm hoping there's a "Shaft's Continuing Revenge." Other than that, really enjoyed this book.
