Reading this along with Leviathan helps one to greatly understand the literature out there--it includes all the major Hobbes scholars and gives as much focus on the religion half of the book as the more known political half. For example, A.P. Martinich argues that Hobbes is an orthodox Christian Calvinist, who attended the local Anglican church even when it was against the law in England for a time. One of the fundamental questions one has after reading is Hobbes is whether he is a sincere belie [...]


    2. A rather exhaustive collection of essays on Leviathan. Quite a good companion work to read alongside Leviathan, though some of the reception texts in the last section could have been omitted without great loss. In particular the sections on Bk III and Bk IV, I found quite useful in providing context and explicating some of the religious issues.
