    1. A very interesting book by a Scottish Forrester, recounting stories of his time in West Africa where he worked for thirty years.A fascinating array of stories, well told and well mixed with excellent descriptions of the environment, the culture and the people. It includes a chapter set in Canada, on a visit to a distant aunt, but concentrates mostly on Ivory Coast, Liberia, Ghana, Guinea and Nigeria.

    2. A really interesting look at this man's life as a surveyor in Africa. It's a look at abusive white colonialism, but takes the point of view of someone living within the system without passing judgment on it. I really liked it.
