    1. Not as bad as I thought it would be. Entertaining, though the characters were simple. I was surprised to see early acknowledgement of Native American rights, though May had a loooooong way to go.

Oha, da ist man einmal motiviert, zu reiner Unterhaltungslektüre zu greifen, glaubt, mit Klassikern nichts verkehrt machen zu können und somit weiterhin (äh, weitestgehend) erfolgreich am Boykott dem reinen Unterhaltungswert verschriebener Mainstream-Schreiberei festzuhalten, und dann sowas!Dabei stieß mir beim Ölprinzen nicht das verromantisierte Gesamtkonzept deutscher Wildwestrezeption sauer auf. Hierin liegt tatsächlich eine neonostalgisch-eskapistische Qualität, die dereinzt gewiss n [...]


    3. "Der Ölprinz" war nun mein vierter Karl May und steht der Winnetou Reihe um einiges nach. Der Verlauf war absehbar und die mir noch unbekannten Figuren (z.B. Hobble Frank) einfach zu Klischeehaft. Besonders störte mich die Figur des Kantor emeritus, der mir in diesem Buch wirklich auf den Zwirn ging. Zudem war das Ende zu kurz und abgebrochen und ermöglichte keinen sauberen Abschluss der Lektüre. Deshalb nur 2 Sterne


    4. Hmmm. Schwache vier Sterne. Der Anfang zog sich, das Ende war etwas knapp, aber zwischendrin genug der typischen Wildwest-Abenteuer. Mays komische Charaktere mag ich ja generell nicht, aber der Kantor war noch relativ erträglich. Und es gab mit Rosalie mal einen weiblichen Charakter mit Persönlichkeit, und sie hat mir auch gefallen!
